On business trip and looking for a restaurant last night and found a GEM in a place you would not expect... Sierra Vista, Arizona... Having lived in Germany for 11 1/2 years while in the military I always like to find a good German restaurant... This was just like bringing me back... It was a little hole in the wall, but quaintly done. The food was incredible... I had the Zigeunerschnitzel "Gypsy Schnitzel" - OUTSTANDING!!! Tender, well season pork... Chose the Potato Pancake and Rotkraut "Red Cabbage" - flashbacks... My buddy had the Wiener Schnitzel with Spatzle "Homemade German Pasta" and Kartoffelsalat "Warm Potato Salad" - he felt like he was back in Germany as well... He is half German. The only thing was the prices were a little high, but there is so much food you will have left overs. The thing is I look at it like this... If you want something special and it is great, you'll pay that little extra! I was there last night... Going again tonight... Don't miss out!

Amazing little cafe to try out. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. I go here fairly regularly and I am never disappointed. I would recommend the potato pancaked and any meat they have on the menu it is all heavenly. Also I think all their desserts are in house made. Always ask if the have extra pretzel rolls and take some home!

Absolutely delicious! Best local restaurant in Sierra Vista. May look like a hole in the wall from the outside, but it is definitely worth a visit! I would recommend it to anyone!

The food was authentic and delicious. Having lived in Germany for 8 years, and having a German mother, I was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the cuisine. The price is perfect and the portions are plentiful.

We stayed in Sierra Vista on our way to the West Coast. Read about this on yelp and had a great experience there. The food was excellent, my husband used to live in Germany, he thinks the food was wonderful. The service was good.

The food is amazing! Very small resturant. Very few tables. Dont let that scare you away. If you like German food you will Love Love this place :)

We went there tonight we drove from Tucson because it was my husbands birthday and he wanted German food. There were two other tables when we got there the waitress suggested to get the Tour of Germany because she did it was big portion and it was worth it. We were surprised that they didn't give us any bread and butter like all other German restaurants. When we got our food it was Cold the sanitizer was cold the pork chop was cold the gravy was cold the only things not cold were the red cabbage. And The menu said the Tour was for two people and no it wasn't enough. I do agree it had a good flavor and it was authentic but not a good experience for us.

This place must have gone terribly south since anything good was said about it. The food, was ok, there are better german places in town. The waiter didnt even know german and did a bad job of attempting to pronounce the order back to me. The worst part of all was they dont have their own bathroom, you go through a maze to end up in the leaking, dirty, bathroom of the sad dark bar next door, never will I or my family to here again.

Delicious, authentic German food and wonderful service. Oh - all at a great price.

I highly recommend this place! It's small as previously mentioned and next door to a bar. But don't let this fool you! The food is clean, well-prepared, homemade, and worth spending your money on. The Rotkraut and Schnitzel were tasty. It takes a little while to get your food, due to a small staff, but be patience and have a few beers. Enjoy!

Wonderful place. Great German food. Small cafe, personal service, personable servers. Have eaten a variety of just about everything on menu. All good.

I'm not sure if my friend and I went in when The German Cafe was having an off day, but we were pretty disappointed in the food. We heard great things about the restaurant from friends and coworkers, so we decided to give it a go for dinner last night. It's a small place, which is often an indication that the food will be authentic and delicious. The German Cafe shares a building and parking lot with Paul's Pub, and the parking lot was full, even on a Tuesday night. We ordered a beer and a coffee, which had an Archway windmill cookie on the side. I believe the coffee was the best part of the meal. I am not too familiar with German food, so I do not know the name, but we shared the big meatball and had dumplings and German pasta on the side. The menu boasts food that is fresh and cooked to order, which was certainly not the case. The food came out shortly after we ordered (way too quickly to have been prepared fresh and cooked to order) and the different temperatures of the food on the plate and taste was a clear sign that it had been microwaved. The meat was warm on the outside and freezing cold on the inside, while the pasta was warm and chewy, and the gravy and dumplings were scalding hot. After forcing down about half the plate between the two of us, since we felt obligated after seeing the $24 check for one meal and two drinks, only one of which was alcoholic. There is a $3 split plate charge, which is completely ridiculous and we didn't realize until receiving the check. The service was the only redeeming factor of the evening, and the server even offered a complimentary dessert after we told her that the meat was cold on the inside. We kindly declined after seeing that the desserts were sitting out in the open, covered, but had probably been out all day and most likely were also not "fresh" as the menu stated of all the food. The German Cafe might be a better bet during the day for lunch, but for the price, we're not willing to risk another visit. Very disappointing.

Exceptional, authentic German food. Lived in Germany from 98 to 08, and this is the real thing. The ambience in this very small restaurant is lacking, but if you want excellent German food here in the US, you'd be hard-pressed to find better.

Yah, das ees good. Okay, so I don't speak German but I can eat! Quite possibly my favorite hidden restaurant in all of Sierra Vista. Call to make reservations now! There are about 8 tables in the place and it fills up quickly! All dishes are homemade so give the lady in the kitchen time to work her magic! Want to glance at the kitchen? The Hubby and I usually get the potato pancakes (like gigantic hash browns with applesauce and sour cream) and sausage sampler. The cordon bleu is also delicious. And the cucumber salad! And the Black Forest cake. And every single thing on the menu!!! Not sure what to order? Just ask... Their friendly staff is glad to answer questions. For that I say, danke.

Service was great. The creamy onion schnitzle was pretty good, the spatzle was ok, and the potatoes cakes were good

I give one star for experience. This place did not fit the bill. I was very underwhelmed. It was the most bland food I've ever eaten. I don't recommended German food period. Growing up with a Jewish woman for a couple of years. I know what potato cakes are suppose to taste like. The ones I had here, were the worst ever. They didn't even serve them with apple sause and sour cream. The basics!!!! I want the $32 dollars back for such a horrible meal. It was terrible. I do not usually post reviews but the current reviews, aside from the bad ones... on this restaurant, are extremely misleading and deceiving.

Found this place on Yelp and TripAdvisor as a highly rated establishment. It met its mark as somewhere decent to eat in Sierra Vista. I had no idea they had a schnitzel night on Tuesdays, but it's basically $2 off any schnitzel plate (reg $13.99). They have plenty of other appetizers, sausages, and other dishes as well. I got the jager schnitzel which had mushrooms and gravy as a topping. This particular schnitzel came with 2 sides, I choose the warm potato salad and coleslaw. All was very tasty, though I am no expert in German food. Portion size was more than I was expecting too...along the lines of a Chiles or Apple Bees. Waitresses appeared to be high schoolers, but were very attentive. The waitress like someone else mentioned didn't explain the food very well, but was great otherwise. I'd go back.

Although this is a well-known "hole-in-the-wall" it's also a tired old place. The server was just wonderful but even that can't save this restaurant. Initially, I was a little startled when advised that they just don't serve diet sodas so we ended up asking for iced tea which came out in Texas style bell jars. Never had that in Germany. But the tea was good. I asked for the soup of the day - split pea. The half-filled small bowl (cup size) that came out was good and contained a hearty amount of peas, carrots and potatoes but the broth was thin. Flavor was OK but just not like any bowl of split pea I had ever had in Germany, and believe me, as split pea is my favorite soup, I had it everywhere all over Germany. The brotchen was really chewey but otherwise not that great. My Gypsy Schnitzel was a disappointment as well. I am absolutely positive this was store bought at perhaps a Costco, large frozen package and the frozen patty is tossed in the frying pan when ordered. The Gypsy style topping was either canned or contained canned ingredients. I do not believe it was made fresh. The whole thing was rather bland, tasteless and on the barely warm side. And if I'm wrong about that, then that just shows how lousy their food is. On a positive note, the dish came with sides of their cole slaw and warm potato salad, both of which were excellent. Wifey was really excited to order the Berlin Currywurst but not so happy after trying it. The curry sauce was darker then what we get in Berlin and lacked the kick and spiciness of the real deal. So, we don't know if they made it on their own or get it shipped from somewhere, it just wasn't what we get at the wurst carts all over Berlin. The wurst itself was OK. Two stars (Meh. I've experienced better) is being charitable. Not worth the drive.

I had a hard time convincing the hubs to try this place. Now that we've been I won't have to ask him twice! We all (including two small boys) enjoyed our food.

I've eaten German food many times, including in Germany... This establishment is not a good representation at all...Try it once, and you'll NEVER RETURN! Then they charged me $2.00 for a teaspoon of warm sour cream..

What a great place! I came here with my coworkers while in town for business and everything we had was delicious. I loved my jaegerschnitzel with spaetzle and potato pancakes. The rumcake and German chocolate cake were also very good. Service was friendly, upbeat, and polite. Don't know when I'll be back in Sierra Vista again, but I'm definitely coming back when I'm in town.

We just returned from dinner at the German Cafe, which was very good. There were only 3 of us tonight, as 2 were not well enough to go out (they were sick from eating at La Fuente the evening before) and 1 was tired and stayed home. 2 of us got the Jaegerschnitzel and 1 got the onion cream sauce schnitzel. Tonight was schnitzel night - any schnitzel dinner for $11.99, so we happened upon this place on the right night. Any schnitzel plus your choice of 2 sides. The hunter sauce on the Jaegerschnitzel was excellent and the schnitzel was lightly breaded, so not heavy. I got a side of home fries, which were great with the hunter sauce on them. My wife got the onion cream sauce schnitzel with the sweet & sour red cabbage. She likes rahm schnitzel (cream sauce with capers), but liked this equally well. We each chose a cup of extra gravy as one of our sides, but they are generous with the sauce and it is not necessary to get extra. I took off one star because this place is not large enough and people had to wait to be seated, which is a little awkward if you are sitting where they are standing; however, tonight may have been busy because of the schnitzel special. The staff is very friendly; it appears to be family run. Our favorite German restaurant is in Texas but this place is a close second place, which is pretty good for a restaurant in remote Sierra Vista. We are very likely to come here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Unexpectedly brilliant. Had the lentil soup and the brat burger one night and decided to come back the next night for a beef dish. This place is as good as most places we have eaten at in Europe and definitely one of the top five places we have been at in Arizona.

Great, what more can one say. A long time local resident I've just rediscovered The German Cafe from my first visit 20 years ago. The current owner/manager has taken this restaurant from a little quaint establishment to a must go to experience. Known throughout the county and state the food, service and atmosphere makes you feel like you are truly in Suddeutchland (Southern Germany). The cooks, servers and management are truly excited in the experience they serve you when you come to eat and enjoy good company.

Good sauerbraten with tasty gravy.. Red cabbage and bread dumplings were ok but somewhat bland. My son tried something new --the Fleischkas - he thought it was good. Restaurant is small but cozy. Staff was friendly. Will return to try the schnitzel

Great place for authentic german food!!! Reasonably priced. I always get the weiner schnitzel and spatzel. So many options to choose from as well as specials. They also help little league rescue (dog rescue group). Great place and a hidden gem in Sierra vista

This is my favorite place to eat in Sierra Vista. I come from a big German family and living out here on my own, I miss the food. The German Cafe is like having home cooked German food again. Their desserts are to die for, their staff is so friendly, and I think it's just a great, chill place to go. Great place to sit and have a few beers and chat and get some great food. They also have a great Facebook page with pictures of things on their menu and different specials the place has running. So fantastic!

  • LilStar D.

I absolutely adore this place!! I always get their schnitzel special. :) Not only are the owners super friendly, but their service is superb! I also love their rum cake as well. Although their menu price is definitely on the expensive side, I'm willing to pay for it because they give generous portions! Let's put it this way...for me, German Cafe trumps Olive Garden. German Cafe wins hands down.

Make this your must stop for German food in Sierra Vista. OK for small groups of 3-4 do to limited seating. Beer served don't know about the other adult beverages. Portions served are large so come hungry or think leftovers which I had for lunch the next day.

'Michael C' get your self back to this joint during business hours! Writing them off will deprive you of one of the most delightful culinary experiances you will ever have. The wait staff alone is interesting, from the daughter, to the sister to the boyfriend, then comes the chow! Knock your socks off brother, get out there again. \

The smallest restaurant I've been to in SV but well worth the visit. The food is delicious and tastes very fresh. The staff is attentive and friendly and the kind of people you can just hang out with. They seem to actually care about customer service. The only thing that is keeping me from giving them a 5 star is their price. I think their prices are a little high for the area. I would probably take anyone new there if they are into German food.

Their chicken schnitzel was delicious! It came with these awesome mashed potatoes and I think German Cole slaw. Awesome food and fast service!

Awesome authentic German food Great Jagerschnitzel, red cabbage and potato salad. It takes sometime to get the food but it's worth it.

  • Jesse E.

This place has a lot of rave reviews, but I've been there twice and personally, I think it was mediocre. Perhaps it's because I'm comparing it to another German place in Sierra Vista (I'm sure there's probably a Yelp etiquette issue with naming another restaurant in a review) but I was not satisfied either time that I went. The decor is great. It really reminds me of being back in Germany. It's definitely got that going for it. The Jaeger-Schnitzel, was too thick and was chewy/tough. The potato pancakes were seriously greasy. But... I guess if you're looking for German food at night or on weekends, this is the only place to go.

  • David R.

Great German food. Had the appetizer plate of two brats and kraut. Around $10 for the plate with more food than I could eat. Would go back, very tasty. Schnitzel looked amazing.

  • Tim S.

First time I went it was too salty but after eating there an additional two times, delicioso. Now I plan on getting the brats on my next visit.

    (4)
  • Dan S.

WARNING!...For locals only. The waiter spent more time visiting with the locals then he did taking my money. The food is ok, but the service was deplorable. There were only 3 parties in the restaurant and we were ignored! I won't go back. It is quite obvious this is a locals only restaurant!

As this seems to be a particular of a lot of people, The German Cafe seems to be full, or at least the two times I went. Being German, I've had my fair share of German foods, and the food served here reminds me of my early years, with home cooked food. Now that doesn't mean I'm a huge fan of German food, so their food was on par with my expectations. It was good, but not great. Their service on the other hand... Let's just say, don't go there for lunch unless you have about an hour to wait for your food, after you've ordered it. The last time I went there it literally took an hour to wait for our food after we had ordered it. They claim it's freshly cooked, well I'm not sure that's the case all the time, but it seemed to be this time. I was afraid they had to go out back and slaughter the cow before we were served our beef. Talk about fresh, that would be awesome! I really doubt that was the case. :) Anyway, the place is small and cozy. If you like close quarters this place will be fine. It's not a bad place, but it's not on my top of the list places to go.

Excellent experience. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the food, cleanliness, and top notch waitress. This was our first time eating at German Cafe. I had the #20 and my husband had the Reuben sandwich with homeade pomme frites. We shared a potato pancake appetizer. The portions are generous and ALL the food was sooooo delicious. We also had tasty coffee with cookies afterwards. Can't wait to go back!

For Sierra Vista, it doesn't get much better. Very good German food and good beer at good prices. Unfortunately, I did not discover this gem until I was almost done with my sentence in Sierra Vista when a friend recommended it, so I never got a chance to try the dessert, but the meals that my party and I enjoyed were fantastic, and definitely one of the high points of my relatively awful time in Sierra Vista.

  • Cristina L.

I sure like this place, definitely has a real gastehouse feel to it. They've got a decent menu, hours, German beer and friendly service. I particularly liked their goulashsuppe. If you miss Deutschland this is a good alternative. Bon appetit!

I am in Sierra Vista for an Army class and I have eaten here twice. Based on a tour in Stuttgart, I have acquired a taste for German food. I found that the German Cafe was authentic and delicious. If you are in the mood for German food, they serve excellent schnitzel and other German specialties. Note that the German Cafe is very small and reservations are suggested. As well, they are closed on Sunday and Monday. There is no web site, but they are on Facebook.

  • Terry B.

We found The German Cafe on Yelp and decided to try it out based on the reviews we read. The restaurant is small...maybe 15 total. We called ahead and made reservations. We got there early and what a nice surprise. Small and Clean...comfortable. The food was amazing and fairly priced. We had the best service. Gary was friendly and fun. Very knowledgeable and well spoken. We left feeling we had been going there for ages. We went to celebrate a birthday and he made it even more memorable. Thank you to Gary and the owner for making our trip in Sierra Vista such a pleasant visit! We hope to visit the German Care every time we visit Sierra Vista.

  • Gina W.

This is my favorite restaurant in Sierra Vista because it has the most character, as well as pretty good food. Being a vegetarian, I can't speak to most of their main course offerings; however, the spaetzle main dish (with a cheesy sauce) and the potato pancakes are divine.

  • Alicia G.

This place is awesome! I have never had a bad meal here. Very authentic, the staff is friendly, and I actually like that the restaurant is small. This is the best German food I can get without going to see my grandparents in Germany. Good job!

  • Michael C.

Posted hours are till 9pm, showed up hungry at 8:30 and told they were closed. Don't think I'll return. Very smokey inside as well. Wish I could comment on the food, did I say I was hungry? I was looking forward to some bratwurst and pommes frites.

  • Debra B.

I was not disappointed. We took our 11 year old grandson and celebrated an early Father's Day dinner. We each tried something different. Schnitzel, goulash, and meatballs. All prepared so fresh, tasty, and delicious. The only negative is that when we arrived at 6 on a Saturday night they were out of the spätzle and red cabbage sides. However, the meal was still amazing. Great cup of coffee and german cake to finish. Our grandson had the most satisfied look on his face, and my husband loved the whole shebang!! The co-owner Gary, delightful and a sweet host. We highly recommend and can't wait to return to Sierra Vista to revisit the German Cafe.

The owner emailed me to let me know she was listening to my comments and will try to fix her staff. That means a lot to have the owner contact you to let you know they care. Like I said, the food is great here. We would give it another chance. Thank you Anette for letting us know you care!

First time eating German in the states and it was yummy! It's a cozy little place with pretty limited seating so I would make a reservation. Service was good, but don't expect it to be very fast as they make everything themselves. I ordered the French Onion Soup which was really good and big and filled me up. I also ordered the Onion Rahm Schnitzel which probably wasn't the smartest thing since I just ate the french onion soup, but oh well it all tasted really good. I would try this place if you plan to be in Sierra Vista. Support local businesses and avoid those nasty chain restaurants.

I've lived in the old FRG and had wonderful food from the middle of Baveria to eating great fish off the main strasse-platz in Regensburg. I enjoy the small gasthaus feel of this place and every meal has always been well prepared as I remember. As the evening meal progresses and I enjoy the few weissen (wish they had the larger bottles) my limited deutsch comes back and I enjoy catching bits of the conversations as the staff and more fluent German speaking patron converse. We have a gem in out midst...

Thanks to yelp! Great little place. Great people. Food was great. I'm giving it a 4 star because the snitzel was a little tough. Could be softer. I highly recommend this place. You may want to make reservations though. The place is so small, that 3 couples had to wait about 30 minutes and they ended up leaving. Just a FYI.

The German Cafe is a big surprise. From it's modest location right next to Paul's Pub, they serve some of the best German food I have ever had. A Germanophile foodie who lives in San Francisco recommended this place to me, and he couldn't have been more right. The bread dumplings were so out-of-this world that I fantasized about them for weeks, with their little chunks of tender-crisp braised pork and savory gravy. One could make a meal of it, but it is good to share. The soups are also excellent. I usually hate ordering wine at places like this, because it is usually warm and just not good, but the particular glass I had was close to cellar temperature and perfectly drinkable (and cheap). The service was very friendly and caring. Please go! The one Saturday night we went, we were the only people there, and I fear the Vista will let yet another decent, local restaurant close. As we drove home, I saw that the parking lots of Buffalo Wild Wings, Roadhouse something or another and Outback were packed. Nothing against chain restaurants, because they have their moments and purpose, but what a treat those people would have had if they had ventured down the street a little.

Amazing food, great atmosphere, fantastic service. I was absolutely thrilled with my meal here. I wish that they had a larger selection of German beers, but hey, the food more than makes up for it. I had the Pork Schnitzel with mushroom gravy, Potato Pancakes, and Apple Sauce. If I find myself in Sierra Vista again, I will definitely be back for seconds.

Would never have thought I could find a restaurant in the US serving better German food than any other German restaurants I've been to my three times visiting Germany...

  • Ed G.

I'm pretty sure I've never had real German food, but I hope this is what it's supposed to be like. It's a small place, maybe 15 tables at most. Very friendly and prompt service. The German cook (everyone seemed to speak German in there, even a few customers) even came out to deliver a few dishes herself. I had a goulash (with pork) that was filled with a healthy amount of vegetables and a vibrant tomato taste. I enjoyed a bratwurst covered in a curry ketchup sauce. I also got to have some spiced dumplings in a mushroom and pork gravy that made me the happiest. What sealed the deal was the cherry torte and the apple walnut bread pudding. The desserts are all made there fresh and are fantastic. A true find in a city I wouldn't have expected it in and not even out of the way really.

This place is awesome. The owner and her family are the greatest, and the currywurst (?) is the kind of thing that makes your mouth water and I loathe that phrase. Amazing potatoes, too. Makes me remember my grandma's cooking!

Authentic German food in Sierra Vista? I have found it! I would always eat here all the time when visiting the area. Nice German lady who owns is is really cool. the shnitzel is awesome, not to mention the bakery as well. I think everyone needs to come in and see for themselves exactly what I'm talking about. It'll change your life

Friendly service, delightful and authentic atmosphere, good quality food (difficult to pronounce, but very tasty nonetheless) and even take-out options. The only real disadvantage is it's TINY! There's barely enough room for a family or group to sit, but as previously mentioned, you can order take-out if it's too full. The potato pancakes are noteworthy, try those.

Das ist wunderbar. While being stationed in Wurzburg I aquired a love for the German cuisine. The German Cafe is the closest I can get to authentic German food. Their speatzle was fabulous not at all soggy or over boiled, the rot kraut was a very good balance between tangy and sweet, the cordon bleu was cooked well and the rahm schnitzel was excellent. The only thing that the family ordered that I would not order again was the Frikadelle. It fell apart and didn't hold its shape although the flavor was good. Over all the German Cafe reminded me of the many places we went to during our 8 yrs in Germany. It is a place I would go to again when I begin craving german food. A Bonus...hand crafted desserts from Kase Kuchen (cheese cake) to Black forest cakes (sold out before I got a peice).

This review is solely a cost-benefit analysis; menu item is a salad for $8. Add $4 for chicken, and $4 for a beer. Add tax and tip the waiter for a $21 tab. Delicious salad by the way, but I will not be back soon.

My husband and I came and loved it. The potato salad is amazing. it was fun to try german food here. They have a decent sized menu with lots of choices. Also the restuarant had lots of decorations on the wall. Pictures of Germany, and other stuff.

First of all I'd like to address a few items: YES, this is an authentic German restaurant for FOOD, not for dinnerware... It is small... cozy... a family owned restaurant that has overcome and endured SV's economy. I recently was introduced by friends and believe me it's well worth it. Of note - my friends and I have all been to Germany and this is by far the best tasting German food this side of the Atlantic (been to many in Columbus/Cinn, OH - home of huge GE populations) .... I'm not going to go into how the food tastes, because everything I've tried thus far has been wonderful.... I will say this, be patient don't be in a rush - relax. Talk to the staff and they will accommodate you as quickly as possible if your not happy.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside there is Friendly service, cozy atmosphere and good food.

Excellent. Great service, great quality of food, potato pancakes on point, sausage, even the ranch was creamy and delicious. Would come back here again, total staple of Sierra Vista!!! Charming ambiance.

I have been wanting to try this place ever since I came to Ft Huachuca a few weeks ago and am I happy I was finally able to make it in tonight. The food was excellent, the service was courteous, and I loved the unique atmosphere. I will absolutely be returning soon.

My husband and I always have a great experience. Always bringing friends and will continue to bring family when they visit. Food is always cooked perfect and service is friendly. It's a little wait for food depending on how full restaurant is.but worth it. Just go with patience.

With all the rave reviews I expected better. I went with friends and all of us were extremely disappointed. My friend commented how she could make better Cordon Bleu. My husband reported the chicken was raw on one side. All of my meal was warm when served. Nothing special about this place, at all. I will admit that the cucumber salad was very good and the service was attentive.

Was pleasantly surprised. We arrived around 530pm on Tuesday. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks shortly. Tuesday happens to be $11.99 schnitzel night! I ordered the Holstein schnitzel which is topped with two fried eggs and warm potato salad. I decided to order it without capers and anchovies and sub out the warm salad for spatzel. My coworker left his as is and the warm salad is more like mashed potatoes with sour cream. Overall great portions and very tasty. The service can be slow when there are lots of customers but not to the point where you are starving. We ended our meal with a slice of rum cake and it was quite rummy. If it's not your thing, don't order it. In my case, I loved it.

Don't let the outside mislead you. Yes it's small, yes it's next to a pub and yes parking is limited. However this is the best German food you'll eat in Arizona. 4 of us drove from Tucson to have lunch. We ordered everything from a Ruben to a brat burger to Jaeger schnitzel to sauerbraten and everyone was happy. We plan to go back just to try something else on the menu. Service is quick, polite and helpful. Don't miss it

The bratwurst was amazing but the potato salad was out of this world. I never thought you could get that much flavor out of potato salad but they proved me wrong. I'm sure my husband and I will be stopping by here again once we move back to AZ.

This place is a great find went there 4 years ago when on a business trip to Sierra Vista. Came back again on another business trip and dinned there again and it was awesome again the Switzerland Schnitzel was delicious.

I have a love hate relationship with German food. I love the way it tastes, the herbs, and spices. My disdain comes from so many places serving boiled bratwurst and calling it "authentic". So yes, I was skeptical going to the German Cafe. The interior isn't the greatest but it has a quaint, rustic feel to it (like the rest of Sierra Vista). Our waitress was really pleasant and helpful. And the food was pretty good! Perfectly cooked potatoes, well seasoned sauerkraut, and a brat that sliced like butter. Only complaint? You should have more juice selections than orange and apple. Otherwise, it's a great place!

Good German food. Had the Jagersnitzle, spatzle, and cucumber salad. Service was friendly and quick, and the food reminded me of my days in Germany. Washed it all down with a dark beer to complete the experience. Highly recommend everyone try this place out. The dining area is small so get there early.

This is authentic German cuisine at a reasonable price. Very happy with food and the service. Highly recommended!!!

The owner did contacted by email.. Which was nice.. but I don't think at $39 plate for 2 and cold food the second re-heat go around is a good thing. So maybe if I'm in the local area I will try them out again. But I will not make a 3 hour chance again though. Hope things will change as the owner promises:) we want to love your place!!

Wow - this was our 2nd time here. It has become one of our favorite spots to eat when traveling through Sierra Vista. If you want really tasty and good German food - this is the spot. We now have tried several dishes and EVERYTHING has been delicious. Good prices and OK service. Highly recommended!!

Excellent authentic German cuisine, loved loved the potato pancakes and smoked sausages. Do wish the food was a little less oily though. Service

Why do I have to drive from Tucson to get good German food? The fact that I drove from Tucson is enough of a review I think. Worth it. It can get busy on the weekend. Call ahead if you are driving from far away.

We chose to try out The German Cafe for our weekly date night dinner this week. It was AMAZING! The restaurant is next to a really shady bar in a maybe not so great area, but it's worth your time I promise! The food is phenomenal! Keep in mind that you will have to wait a bit as everything is prepared on request, but it's just so good. I had the Jaeger schnitzel with spaetzel & potato pancakes & I was in heaven. My boyfriend had one of the sausage plates (can't remember which) & he really enjoyed it as well. When we have time to go with a crowd, we will definitely be ordering the schnitzel sampler with all the various types. Mmmm! I finished up my meal with a to go slice of German Chocolate cake for when I got home. It was no joke, the BEST German chocolate cake I have ever had in my entire life! It was rich & moist & so full of flavor. I can't wait to go back & I've already told so many people about it back home for when they come to visit. If I could give more stars I would!! The only issue we had was that we left after dark & the bar next door was really seedy, so we quickly left the area.

I felt cheated after reading all the positive reviews on this place. I was in Sierra Vista on business, and this seemed to be one of the higher rated restaurants in town, plus it boasted "authentic German good," so I stopped by. The restaurant was deserted. No customers and employees in the back arguing about another employee. After a few minutes I was greeted, and shown a table. I ordered my drink, and the server disappeared into the back. She comes back with a teabags to choose from (I ordered hot tea) takes my order, and leaves again. I hear more arguing in the back between employees. I don't see her again until my food is ready, at which time she realizes that I don't have hot water or a cup. So finally I have my food and my drink, and it's good food no doubt, but I haven't seen my server in 20 minutes...2 stars for good food but crappy service.

Walked in for dinner around 6 pm on Saturday and we got the last free table. Other tables opened shortly thereafter, so a wait wouldn't have been more than 10 mins. Had the goulash and homemade bread pudding and my coworker had the mushroom gravy topped schnitzel with potato pancakes and cucumber salad. We split a slice of blackberry banana cake for dessert. I enjoyed my hearty soup. Bread roll was dry so I didn't eat much of it. Bread pudding was moist but tasted bland (unless that's the typical style?), so I dunked bits of it into my broth. Mm. Schnitzel looked good and my coworker devoured everything. Cake was delicious! Service was quick and attentive.

This was my first time ever having German food and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. I appreciated that each German title on the menu included an english description of what you were getting. Along with the menu, they also have daily specials listed on the blackboard. The alcoholic beverage options are not listed on the menu but the service is super friendly, so just ask. They have 3 German beers, a dark, a light, and a heffeweissen. I think they also have wine as saw someone on another take drinking some white wine. The place has a homey feel. There's tons of german posters, news articles, artifacts on the walls. My friend and I had fun trying to read them all and use google translator to understand :) Another plus, everything is very fare priced :)!

This was one of my favorite places to eat until tonight. It gets 2 stars because the food was still good. We are usually very easy to please but our dinner experience tonight was horrible! My family of 4 went for dinner at 6:30 tonight and were 1 of 3 tables. We ordered three waters and a coffee, an appetizer, 2 kid meals and 2 adult meals (one had a salad as a side). My salad came out first and within 45 seconds my entree followed. We told her we had ordered an appetizer and she asked if it was okay that my meal was ready. After telling her it really wasn't okay, she said she would put it under the warmer. One of the kids meals came out with the appetizer. Then my meal came out again still warm but definetly had "settled" a bit. When we asked about the other kid and adult meal we were welcomed with a blank, confused stare. Our waiter examined the ticket, apologized and said the cook was new. He came back with my husbands meal and we again had to ask about the other kids meal. By then I was done and my husband was so annoyed he got his to go in a box. Our waiter was very apologetic and asked if anyone wanted desert. We assumed he meant it would comped and ordered one piece of cake. He came back with the bill and another apology. Our bill was to our dismay, $65! Nothing was comped, nothing discounted or taken off for the inconvenience. We eat out less than once a month and money is tight so we were very disappointed! I am pretty sure the owner or at least the manager was a lady sitting in a booth on FB (I am sure ot was FB because I looked as I walked by her while leaving, giving her a great oppertunity to apologize)!!! I am so sad that this happened because we really like this place!

What a hidden gem! This place is definitely worth going to for good, authentic German food. Very casual and laid back place that's tucked away, but just yummy! It's a small place that shares a bathroom with the local pub next door, but wow what a pleasant surprise! The best part of the meal was definitely the POTATO PANCAKES! Excellent sauerkraut and a delicious warm potato salad. We'll definitely be back again!

While I wouldn't say their schnitzel is necessarily better than the bread basket it is just as good and it's nice that they have a few different types and lots of options for sides... they are also open for dinner which the breadbasket isn't. I definitely feel like I'm right back in Deutschland while enjoying my meal. My only complaint was that they don't seem to have a salad dressing similar to what I was used to in Germany. They offered a raspberry vinaigrette and something else so I went with the cucumber salad which was delicious but I would love to find someone who can create those delicious side salads I remember from back home!

Very good and authentic German food! I went here after seeing the review on Yelp, and this restaurant did not disappoint! I had to go back again in the short time I was in Sierra Vista. This time I took two other people, and everyone enjoyed this food. I especially liked the German potato salad.

I wasn't expecting this high quality food, especially at $11.99 for a plate of onion cream schnitzel and potato salad and bread dumplings (schnitzel special!) One of the best meals I had on my two week trip to Arizona. My partner lived in Germany for many years as a kid, and this is some of the best German food he's had in the States. My schnitzel was thick and expertly breaded. The onion cream sauce was savory and generously spiced with white pepper. I LOVED the potato salad as well! The portions were gigantic, enough for two dinners.

Really unique and great food you wouldn't expect to find in Arizona. This Cafe is family owned and inviting. You should definitely stop here!

I was heartbroken when Peter and Bridgette sold this restaurant. What would I do without Hawaiian Schnitzel? Where would I get my Hawaiian Schnitzel? How do people live without Hawaiian Schnitzel? These questions plagued me for years, until the new owners put it back on the menu - just as I'm moving away from meat eating (*shakes fist at universe*). I indulged anyway. The potato salad is still to-(overly-gorge-and-blissfully)-die-for, and they've kicked up the deserts a decadent notch or two. Happy to have returned.

We had lunch here on Sat. The restaurant is clean and neat . This was our first visit and what a meal we had , can't say enough about it. The portion size was more then I could finish. We both had the house special Jagerschnitzel with two accompanying dishes. There was: the Potato salad - excellent the German cold slaw - excellent the Potato pancakes - very good the Spatsels - very good The young waiter was courteous and efficient. Our meal did take some time to arrive as it was cooked fresh. As others have said it is a small cozy place and fills up fast at meal time, but the staff is efficient and can handle the guests.

Authentic German food, beer, coffee, and dessert at very good prices. And the staff is super! Some may not appreciate the beer selection -- they have Warsteiner dunkle (dark), light, and a heffeweissen. In my opinion, that is all you need. But I just thought I'd put that out there. The menu selection is classic German and all the dishes are authentic. Ok, to be fair, I haven't had them all -- yet. But I am working on it! It's like an adventure getting through all the different choices. The schnitzels and the different sauces are delicious. The German potato salad and cucumber salad are just like Oma used to make!

The food was outstanding and very authentic. I am German and talked with the owner. They make EVERYTHING from scratch, even the red cabbage. We had Sauerbraten (marinated roast) and Rouladen (thin steak wrapped around bacon, pickles, and onion) and these were outstanding, just like my Mom used to make them at home.

As soon as I opened the door, the aroma transported me back to my home in Deutschland. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I walked in, as it smells like a delicious kitchen in the heart of Bavaria. The restaurant is small and decked out in German posters and other flair. The potato pancakes are killer! The gurkensalat (cucumber salad) is briny, creamy dill-iciousness. The currywurst was just like eating from your favorite wurst stand and plenty of curry catsup to dip your fries into- fyi- it is like German law, you must obey and get fries with currywurst. The menu transported me and I wanted to feast. Portions are plentiful...there was an Alpen like mountain of German Potato Salad served on meinen Herrens (Man's) plate...and it was oh so good. I must go back and get some of the leberkase, some schnitzel, spaetzle and some Black Forrest Cake. I've been facebook stalking their homemade sweet treats. I cannot wait for my return. FYI-the bathroom is in the dive bar next door...kind of odd...but with food like this...who cares?!

I love their Jager Schnitzel and Spätzle. The items on the menu are reasonable and portion is big. I just dislike the location.
